PM Gati Shakti Yojana, officially known as the PM Gati Shakti - National Master Plan for Multi-Modal Connectivity, is a transformative infrastructure initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 13, 2021.
It represents a whole-of-government approach to integrated planning and coordinated implementation of infrastructure projects across sectors, aiming to create a seamless multi-modal transport network that connects economic zones, ports, and key hubs.
The plan leverages digital technology, including a GIS-based portal, to break down departmental silos, reduce project delays, and lower logistics costs from the current 13-14% of GDP to single digits. With an outlay of over ₹100 lakh crore, it integrates over 1,400 existing schemes from 44 central ministries and state governments, such as Bharatmala (roads), Sagarmala (ports), and UDAN (airports).
The primary goals of PM Gati Shakti are to:

It has facilitated the development of 17 multimodal logistics parks and integrated 44 ministries' data, leading to savings of ₹1.5 lakh crore in costs by avoiding duplications. The initiative has boosted exports by improving connectivity to 200+ economic nodes and created over 10 million jobs in construction and logistics. As of 2024, logistics performance index rankings improved, with India's score rising from 44th to 38th globally. The plan has also supported renewable energy integration, with over 50 GW of projects aligned to the master plan.
